After a long day of hard work, an Amish family sits down to a hearty meal, almost always including dessert. Pie is often served, probably because the Amish often have fruit trees on their property, and can or freeze fruit during the fall months to use the rest of the year. These are traditional pies, made with fruit the Amish can grow in their orchards, or pick in the orchards of family and friends.
